Adamawa - Muslim Council Wants Review of Curfew

Military authorities on Thursday declared a dusk to dawn curfew in the state shortly after the declaration of state of emergency on Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The statement signed by the acting secretary of the council, Mallam Samaila Umar, noted that the curfew would prevent Muslims from performing three of the five congregational prayers ****ly Subh, Magrib and Isha'i. The statement urged Muslims to remain calm and law abiding.

National chairman of Jamaatul Izalatul Bidiah Waikamattus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Shiekh Bala Lau, also called on the military to look into the matter since according to him, "the security situation in Adamawa was not that serious".

"Peace belongs to God and there is need for all concerned to allow people the right to worship as required by God in our quest for peace and prosperity" , Lau said.

While re-iterating the need for full support and corporation to constituted authorities in their efforts to ensure security of lives and property, Lau tasked security operatives to adhere to their rules of engagement as directed by the president in his broadcast.
